The Creative Way Projects Exchange

The Creative Way Projects Exchange series takes up key policy issues at the centre of current debates in the arena of education, skills and creative business, and seeks to identify practical measures which we can action now to accelerate progress and change.  Each round table event brings together key representatives from public policy agencies, industry and education.

  • Projects Exchange 1: 2012 Legacy - can we create new opportunities in the creative and digital media sector?

Our first Projects Exchange, held on 15 October 2009 at the East Winter Gardens in Canary Wharf, was chaired by Lord Puttnam with a keynote address from Jon Kingsbury, Director Creative Economy Programme, NESTA.

This first event looked at aspirations to centre creative digital media sector activity in East London following the 2012 Games and focused on practical actions to strengthen the education and skills pipeline – widely recognised as key to the success of physical legacy.

A distinctive programme of work is emerging.  Skillset, the sector skills council for creative media, is leading London’s 2012 Media Legacy Programme with backing from the LDA.  And supported by the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation and the London Borough of Hackney, The Creative Way is working with schools and colleges in a pioneering programme which seeks to stimulate and encourage realistic ambition among young people and at the same time, provide progression into relevant media education at higher levels.

This exchange took stock of work in progress and considered possible creative media partnership programmes which could be initiated now so that legacy opportunities are maximised.
