Outline:
Making Tracks 2 aimed to improve access to higher education and employment opportunities within the music industry for students who typically disengage from mainstream education after Sixth Form College. The project involved the development of a HNC in Music Production, aligned to Year 1 of the BA Music programmes delivered at CCCU’s Broadstairs campus.
The HNC route offers an exciting opportunity for students from the partner colleges to study at Point Blank - a music college renowned for its excellent industry links – and to develop higher level skills, equivalent to Year 1 of a degree programme.
Specifically, the project established Point Blank's HNC course as an accessible progression route from the level 3 courses provided by the partner colleges to the degree programmes in Music at CCCU. Students completing the HNC at Point Blank are eligible to progress to the second year of either CCCU's BA (Hons) in Creative Music Technology or its BA (Hons) in Commercial Music. This has created pathways to higher education for young people who consider university out of their reach and would otherwise decide against applying directly to university.
