This project focuses on the development of a part-time Fine Art degree programme, the implementation of a sub-degree framework and the embedding of professional and work related experiences within the curriculum. The aims of the project were to encourage adult learners to engage/re – engage with learning, to promote level 3 progression through the development of a more flexible and work-relevant Fine Art undergraduate programme and to provide career insight and professional skills development via ‘Professional Practice’ modules.
A variety of delivery options (Cert HE, part-time, full-time) have been established, allowing learners more flexibility and the possibility of taking years ‘out’ to focus on family/work commitments or perhaps even to take up positions resulting from the work placement programmes. These were developed with organisations in the area (e.g. Focal Point, Firstsite, Campus Gallery); cultural development agencies (e.g. METAL, MediaShed, Commissions East); and community arts groups (e.g. Leigh Art Trail, Southend Arts Council).
