Course overview
The programme is designed to allow students to develop individual creative interests and leadership skills over the three levels of study. The course encourages group collaborative projects and practice at Level 1 and Level 2 and moves towards independence and the adoption of individual practical project work to encourage the development of new ideas and engagement outside the College Campus.
Students study a variety of subjects, both practical and academic, including theatre history, theatre in the community and a full range of theatre performance skills. These include voice production, theatre workshop skills, creative movement in a dramatic context through a wide range of art forms, devising and scripting to a commission, narrative arts which considers and explores performance stimuli, a study and exploration of practitioners, texts and styles of performance.
There is also strong focus on professional practice with opportunity for study with a company, a practitioner, in a school gaining an overview of teaching, arts administration etc; the choice lies with the student.
Additional course information
Each module of course delivery has a practical outcome from a theoretical underpinning base which helps inform performance development and realisation; this approach is intended to prepare students for a career in teaching, community leadership and performance, arts administration or running a touring company etc, whilst developing knowledge and a wide range of performance skills and experience.
