The course offers a stimulating, creative environment and equips students with knowledge of contemporary fashion and design practice.

There are extensive design facilities on campus, including design studios, print studios and a computer design suite. You will work in a dedicated, specialist fashion studio with access to industry-standard equipment, as well as other design and drawing studios and a well resourced library.

Students are encouraged to take part in student design competitions such as RSA (Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts) and as part of the studies, all final year students take part in a degree show exhibiting their work in London. Visits are organised to exhibitions, galleries and professional studios to provide exposure to industry practice. Guest speakers are also invited onto Campus. In Year 2 students visit Premiere Vision in Paris, and other international trips are available.

You will study all aspects of fashion and textiles although the emphasis will be on the design and production of garments and fabrics.

Work Placement
Although work placements are not compulsory, you will be encouraged to make contacts with designers and companies with a view to gaining valuable industry experience.
In addition there are elements of the course that may be met in the workplace and we support this form of learning. If a work placement is not an option then there are many opportunities for students to participate in live briefs through our industry links and sponsorship.

Assessment Methods
Individual and group projects encompassing design work and realisation, presentations, business reports and written essays.

Future Career
Following graduation, you will be equipped to enter employment in the fashion, textiles and related industries for example as a designer, buyer, merchandiser, illustrator, colourist, journalist or stylist.

Future Study
If you wish to pursue further study, you may continue at Masters Level or progress to specialist postgraduate fashion courses or professional teacher training courses.

Those without these formal requirements but possessing considerable relevant industrial experience will also be considered.
