The Interior Design course offers students a challenging and comprehensive background to both practical skills and the industry itself, providing a vocational focus for your future career. All of our final year students take part in a degree show exhibiting their work in London. Students benefit from our long experience in art and design education, in terms of both facilities and teaching philosophy. The College has extensive design facilities on site, including design studios, 3D workshop facilities, print studios and a computer design suite. You will work in specialist design and drawing studios with access to industry- standard software. Course Content
This programme offers a balance between traditional art and design skills and state-of-the-art computer technology.
Course Structure
Year one
Core subjects include study skills, research skills, drawing, contextual studies and digital applications.
Specialist subjects include construction technology, design studies and technical drawing and conceptual development.
Year two
Core subjects include researching the industry, continuing professional education, cultural studies and drawing.
Specialist subjects include AutoCAD, building conservation, presentation techniques and interior model making.
Year three
Core subjects include advanced research and a dissertation.
Specialist subjects include professional practice, architectural model making, CAD for the built environment and a final major project.
Work Placement
Although a work placement is not compulsory, there are elements of the course that can be met in the workplace and we will support this form of learning. Alternatively, if you are currently in relevant employment, we can help you plan ways to use your employment as a means of meeting the formal course requirements. If a work placement is not an option for you, we will organise 'live' briefs for you to complete, enabling you to meet and work with real clients on real design problems.
Assessment
You will create a range of individual and group projects to provide you with relevant experiences of work and help you build an impressive professional portfolio to help you secure graduate employment.
Future Career
The course prepares graduates for career progression into the creative industries, with a personal confidence in their problem solving ability and a skills portfolio relevant to a sector of the employment market. Graduates will be well equipped for careers in design, typically in interior design or architecture, but also in exhibition, museum or film, TV or theatre.
Future Study
Graduates from the BA (Hons) degree may choose to further their studies at Masters Level at another institution. Some students also go on to gain qualifications in architecture or higher degrees in design.
For an explanation of qualifications, have a look at our IAG page on this site www.creativeway.org.uk/quals. 160 UCAS points from one or more of: BTEC, GNVQ, AVCE / A level (equivalent to CDD- 14 old UCAS points) Foundation Diploma Art & Design, Access certificate or equivalent qualifications. In addition to our standard offer you will be expected to demonstrate a portfolio of work at interview. The Diploma in Foundation Studies is acceptable as an alternative to our standard offer. The Campus accepts both routes A and B and does not give preference to either. Deffered entry applications are also welcomed.
A Progression Agreement is a formal arrangement between two or more
education providers. It spells out what a learner needs to do to be
considered for a place on a named programme of study. Progression Agreements
may vary in the conditions they specify but they all aim to give guaranteed
pathways into higher education.
