This programme offers students the chance to develop creatively and technically. It affords the opportunity to acquire both the latest techniques and traditional skills in television and film production and post-production. These include use of professional cameras, roles in the studio, editing skills, digital compositing and visual effects. Presentation design and animation techniques for motion graphics are also included.

There is a real need in the media industry for creative people who are skilled in these practices and techniques at the professional level. This programme allows for original and creative minds who want to explore specialist areas of television and film production and post-production and develop a portfolio ready for industry. Some courses will be held in our purpose built TV studio at the Avery Hill campus.

This programme is delivered in partnership with BBC Training and Development who will be inputting lectures and practical studio sessions as part of the course. BBC Training and Development is globally recognised as a centre of excellence. It remains at the forefront of the development and spread of training in digital technology in broadcasting.

Studio based production and studio based post-production are taught in conjunction with BBC Training and Development. Typically, students attend two, week long, residential blocks of study at BBC Training and Development, in Wood Norton, Worcestershire. These intensive, immersive courses are hands-on. Students will also receive two BBC training courses of lectures and additional teaching to further extend this professional grounding. Each training block at Wood Norton will involve four nights away from the university campus and students will incur some modest additional costs.
It is expected that this programme will especially appeal to those with a background in such creative areas as Art and Design, Multimedia, Visual or Media Studies with a strong interest in film and television production. To this end, it is envisaged that successful candidates will be able to produce evidence of such interest and experience. This could take the form of interview, personal statement or portfolio.
