This exciting new Foundation Degree aims to prepare you for the audio engineering and production aspects required in professional broadcasting.

Ravensbourne is renowned for its provision of broadcasting courses that relate directly to what is happening with the industry. We offer a £10m industry-standard broadcast facility, advanced post production facilities and an extensively equipped recording studios. This is in addition to the expertise of our teaching staff, sessional tutors and guest speakers from industry.

This specialist course is practically focused and will support you in developing vocational skills to an advanced and professional level.

You will focus on understanding the electronic engineering techniques used in audio technology, and become familiar with the day-to-day operation of an audio recording studio.

Your skills base will broaden to understand creative studio techniques when working with voice, music and sound effects.

By mastering a wide range of key recording, editing and production skills, you will build a strong portfolio to showcase your audio talents.
Level 1

You will focus on understanding the fundamental working principles of digital audio recording, both in a studio and on location. Working through lectures, live scenarios and practical workshops, you will gain a critical knowledge of the profession. Core topics include: broadcast technology; operational skills; electronics; television systems and signals; mathematics.

Level 2

The second year builds on what you have learned in Level 1, with particular emphasis on preparing you for work in the industry. You will gain an in-depth understanding of the issues currently affecting the broadcasting industry, backed with transferable skills in teamwork, project management and content development. Core topics include: broadcast audio systems; information and communications technology; broadcast hardware systems; applied mathematics and a Rave on Air technology project.
4 GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent (preferably including English, Media/Technology), and at least one of the following or equivalent UK or international qualification: 1 A Level (A-C); 2 AS Levels (A-C); Level 3 Foundation Diploma or National Diploma; Progression Diploma (A-C) or International Baccalaureate (24 points or above). Also, an interview and a portfolio, showreel or other indicator of creative or technical practice where appropriate.
A Progression Agreement is a formal arrangement between two or more education providers. It spells out what a learner needs to do to be considered for a place on a named programme of study. Progression Agreements may vary in the conditions they specify but they all aim to give guaranteed pathways into higher education.
