The course will appeal to potential or developing creative professionals (for example cultural managers or cultural businesspeople) and creative practitioners (such as freelance writers or digital designers) seeking to develop, extend broaden or vary their skills and knowledge base. It involves teaching and learning in three areas. Firstly, it teaches key relevant professional skills in cultural management (including arts management, cultural policy and small-business accounting), research and project development (including project management), personal career development (including professional self-analysis and team-building) and sector analysis. Secondly, it provides basic instruction in appropriate vocational skills such as digital imaging, scriptwriting, marketing, digital video production and journalism. Thirdly, it offers a sound academic grounding in knowledge relevant to the creative and cultural sector (including history, theory and economy of media institutions in significant sub-sectors such as television, film, fine art and journalism).
The course consists of five compulsory modules (including a dissertation/project) and two (out of a choice of ten) optional modules.

The minimum entry requirement will normally be a lower second-class Honours degree. Applicants will also be considered who have a relevant professional qualification and/or extensive relevant professional or arts experience.

A Progression Agreement is a formal arrangement between two or more
education providers. It spells out what a learner needs to do to be
considered for a place on a named programme of study. Progression Agreements
may vary in the conditions they specify but they all aim to give guaranteed
pathways into higher education.
