The Foundation Degree (Arts) Editing and Post Production is a vocational course offering you the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, craft, critical and technical skills suited to a career in post production.
Editing skills lie at the heart of this course and you will learn how to articulate story and meaning through cutting sound and picture. You will also acquire skills in screen graphics, visual effects, compositing, grading, audio-post, authoring and quality control.
To help prepare you for industry, this programme is delivered in an environment that mirrors industry practice with much of learning simulating real work-based projects.
Getting on in industry means working well with clients and across a range of post production disciplines. This is why we place considerable emphasis on developing your interpersonal and transferable skills. Throughout the course, you will have opportunities to collaborate with other students on broadcasting and design courses.
Graduates who successfully pass the Foundation Degree have the opportunity to progress to the one year top-up BA (Hons) Editing and Post Production degree.
Level 1
The first year of the course develops your knowledge in the use of post production tools, editing techniques and the broader production process.
You will learn how to critically analyse the editing process, placing it in the broader production process and relating it to story telling. Understanding television standards and evolving technology is also a key feature of your first year.
You will work on non-linear and compositing systems, editing materials across a range of genres including documentary, drama and advertising. Core topics include: post production, applied post production and broadcast technology.
Level 2
The second year builds on your skills and knowledge, with particular emphasis on developing critical skills and preparing you for work in the industry. You will be encouraged to put your skills to the test by completing technical tasks, live projects and a work placement lasting up to six weeks. Core topics include: post production and applied post production.
In addition, each Level contains units in Contextual Studies, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, and Personal and Professional Development to give you a rounded education that prepares you for professional life.
4 GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent (preferably including English, Media/Technology), and at least one of the following or equivalent UK or international qualification: 1 A Level (A-C); 2 AS Levels (A-C); Level 3 Foundation Diploma or National Diploma; Progression Diploma (A-C) or International Baccalaureate (24 points or above). Also, an interview and a portfolio, showreel or other indicator of creative or technical practice where appropriate.

A Progression Agreement is a formal arrangement between two or more
education providers. It spells out what a learner needs to do to be
considered for a place on a named programme of study. Progression Agreements
may vary in the conditions they specify but they all aim to give guaranteed
pathways into higher education.
