Designed for committed individuals who have an interest in communication and promotion, the course centres on the acquisition of skills in promotion: styling, photography and illustration; forecasting, event planning as well as effective market research, public relations and fashion media studies. For those students already working in the industry, or who wish to take a part-time course to enter the field, this course is ideal.

Because of the range of opportunities involved in fashion promotion we encourage applicants from different backgrounds and experiences of education, life and work. We are looking for people with an awareness and enthusiasm for communicating a fashion message. An interest in the vocational aspect of the course is important. We are primarily interested in people's creative potential in fashion. While we encourage applications from candidates who have previous educational experience in further education art and design courses and media, such as Foundation and Access courses we also welcome students who wish to return to education.

The course is designed for students who currently have other commitments such as work or familly and we are able to provide a flexible provision to meet individual requirements.

Throughout the course, visits are organised to exhibitions, galleries, and of educational and cultural interest. In Year two students are given the opportunity ti visit Premiere Vision in Paris. Visits to proffesional venues and studios will also develop a contextual awareness of proffesional practice with additional industry guest speakers to support the proffesional development modules.A number of other international trips are available.

The college also accomodates artists in residence who work closely with our students and offers their creative and proffesional experience.

Course Content
Each year is divided into two semesters with modules of study in each. Modules are periods of study specially designed to enable students to explore a subject in depth. The proportion of structured teaching and independent study will vary between modules. The course is taught through a series of projects including practical subjects in promotional, design and fashion marketing principles. The curriculum encourages both experimental and practical learning and is supported by critical and theoretical study as well as work-based learning.

Course Structure
Forecasting and tend prediction projects.

This involves the development of strategies for collecting and interpreting visual information,the application of creative thinking and the production of original designs to communicate ideas through visual imagery.


Event Organisation: Planning,marketing and funding aspects will be covered. You will be introduced to the complexities os show and exhibition organisation and management through a variety of live projects.

Fashion styling and photographic concepts: Through the creation and manipulation of imaging and styling for marketing communications, you will interpret and represent the purpose of a concept for media,exhibition and presentation purposes.

Digitally based design and information technology allows a specialisation in the use of digital media for communication and the development of effective presentation and promotion material.

Work Placement
The course includes periods of work placement and the opportunity for live briefs. Work-based learning takes place in a variety of locations within the fashion design and media industry. Many of the course team are practising professionals and therefore there is a wealth of knowledge, experience and contacts that are actively part of the course at various levels.

Teaching Methods
The different aspects of fashion promotion are developed in studio, workshop and simulated work-based learning experiences. They share a common contextual studies programme. An important aspect of the course is the personal and professional development programme that is strongly linked to the vocational purposes of the course and all students will be given the opportunity to participate in a period of work placement.

We employ a range of staff from different disciplines, and our academic staff are experienced and active in a wide range of career contexts as artists, designers and makers. This is strongly supported by our technical staff who also bring considerable experience to the course.

Assessment Methods
You will create a range of individual and group projects to provide you with relevant experience of work and help you build an impressive professional portfolio to help you secure graduate employment.

Future Career
The course prepares graduates for career progression into the creative industries, with a personal confidence in their problem solving ability and a skills portfolio relevant to a sector of the employment market. On successful completion of all Level One modules, students can achieve a Higher Certificate in Fashion Communication & Promotion (2 years part time).

Future Study
The course will provide the necessary academic and specialist knowledge for progression on to a Level 3, to up year (year and a half part time) towards achieving a full BA (Hons) Fashion, Communication and Promotion degree

In addition: GCSE Grade C or above Maths; GCS Grad C or above English Language or equivalent;Mature applicants & candidates with relevant experience are welcome. Candidates will need to demonstrate by interview & portfolio submission that they are suitable for the course.
