This is a four-year degree at Goldsmiths. If you successfully achieve the progression requirements of the foundation year, you can continue with the full-time three-year BMus (Hons) Music degree.
The foundation year provides a thorough preparation for the further study of music at degree level. There are a wide range of options, each providing a basic grounding and preparation for specialisation.
You follow core modules which include musicianship training, the study of classical and/or jazz and popular music styles and music history and analysis. You have a choice of options in vocal and instrumental music, jazz and pop, composition, arranging, music technology, performance and world music.
For an explanation of qualifications, have a look at our IAG page on this site www.creativeway.org.uk/quals. No specific qualifications are required, but you should be at an intermediate level on your main instrument and have music theory skills to approximately Grade 5 standard. If you have successfully completed level one of the Access to HE Diploma in Music programme, you should have attained this standard. For other applicants there will be an assessment to decide the most suitable level of entry, followed by a brief interview and audition. Application is to UCAS. Please bring an instrument (if appropriate) for audition purposes.
The audition consists of graded aural tests; theory tests; stylistic recognition; short essay; audition/interview.
A Progression Agreement is a formal arrangement between two or more
education providers. It spells out what a learner needs to do to be
considered for a place on a named programme of study. Progression Agreements
may vary in the conditions they specify but they all aim to give guaranteed
pathways into higher education.
