This two-year intensive taught course provides you with a comprehensive set of skills to prepare for a career in the interior design and architectural industry through the support of leading contemporary designers and academics. It is a structured course providing a strong grounding in key conceptual and technical aspects of spatial design, including CAD using both 2D and 3D. The course develops creative thinking and self-expression and a capacity for independent learning. Teaching is mostly studio-based with tutorials and seminars supported by visiting lecturers and industry professionals, with access to outstanding facilities.
Course structure

The course provides an integrated programme of subject-specific and work-based learning, including live projects and professional practice.

Year 1 the first semester provides a foundation in drawing and presentation and combines theoretical and practical studies to establish an academic base to enable progression to Honours Degree level.

Design History and Context
Visual Communication
Architectural Drawing

The second semester builds upon skills and introduces the key principles, concepts and practices associated with Interior and Spatial design through projects.

Modules include:
Digital Process
Construction and Materials
Spatial Concepts

Year 2 your confidence and understanding in interior and space design culminates with a large-scale major project, which forms the basis of your end-of-year show.

Modules include:
CAD 2D and 3D
Spatial Design Projects
Business Studies (option)
Detailing for Interiors
Major Project
Graduates may be eligible for student membership to the Chartered Society of Designers.
You will be required to present a portfolio of work at interview. You must also have attained GCSE grade C in English Language, key skills qualification level 3 or similar; plus one of the following: At least 80 points from one or more A-levels, plus three other subjects at GCSE; GNVQ at Advanced Level with a pass grade; BTEC National Diploma or Certificate; An Art and Design Foundation course - A recognised Access course.
