Design crafts explores the making and interpretation of applied art, craft and design. You investigate experimental approaches to traditional techniques as well as developing the potential of new materials and technologies. There is a strong emphasis on identifying contexts for your work and seeking to lead practice through a re-examination of its place within a cultural and spatial environment.

Modern craft culture is an emerging area for debate.
Design crafts offers the opportunity to engage with recent issues in areas such as metalwork, jewellery and ceramics and emphasizes the advantages of a cross-disciplinary approach to the making and understanding of objects. You will be encouraged to consider conventional practices in new ways and to explore different arenas for the display of your work.
