This course offers the opportunity for you to engage in applied research stemming from a technology related issue. Key areas of interest include rapid prototyping, virtual environments, nanotechnology, and a virtual TV studio, but other areas are also viable.
You are invited to propose themes of enquiry relating to your chosen technologies and to engage in applied research based on hypothesis and experimentation.
You are expected to become familiar with the processes involved in the development of Intellectual Property including the complexities of collaborative partnership arrangements.
In some technical areas the issues for exploration involve the refinement of particular techniques or the introduction of new approaches. However, in the case of rapid prototyping and nanotechnology, the technologies in question present opportunities for diverse kinds of experimentation and raise fundamental questions about the nature of the technologies and what they can offer to the development of new conceptual ways of working.
Successful completion of a degree in a related discipline at upper second class honours or above, or an equivalent recognised international qualification in a related discipline. Applications from candidates without standard qualifications may be considered on the basis of prior experiential learning. Applicants should submit a brief project proposal along with a completed application form and personal statement. An interview and portfolio are normally required. Overseas applicants who are unable to attend interview will be asked to submit a project proposal, a portfolio of work on disc and a personal written statement.
A Progression Agreement is a formal arrangement between two or more
education providers. It spells out what a learner needs to do to be
considered for a place on a named programme of study. Progression Agreements
may vary in the conditions they specify but they all aim to give guaranteed
pathways into higher education.
