The Master of Fine Art is internationally recognised as the highest taught award in the visual arts. Its standards are endorsed by the College Art Association of the USA. The MFA, unlike most Masters degrees, is used as a guarantee of professional competence in the visual arts.

The recipient of the MFA will have achieved a certifiable level of technical proficiency and demonstrated the ability to make art.

Course content
Semesters 1 and 2:
Studio Practice 1 (Exploration) (60 credits)
Art Theory and Criticism (30 credits)
The Arts Environment (15 credits)
Creative Practice Management (15 credits)
Semesters 3 and 4:
Studio Practice 2 (Consolidation) (60 credits)
Options (60 credits) including: HE Teaching Qualification and Arts Administration
Semester 5:
MFA Exhibition (60 credits)
Methods of teaching and learning
Tutor-led seminars
Student-led seminars
Critiques and group tutorials
Visiting artists
Self-directed practice
Critical reflection
Honours degree (first or upper second) or equivalent in a visual arts discipline appropriate for your proposed practice. A minimum of 90 credits of critical and theoretical study. An electronic portfolio of work. A statement outlining your initial proposals for the development of your studio work. A Progression Agreement is a formal arrangement between two or more education providers. It spells out what a learner needs to do to be considered for a place on a named programme of study. Progression Agreements may vary in the conditions they specify but they all aim to give guaranteed pathways into higher education.
