This course aims to prepare students for future careers as professional designers and technologists working with products for a variety of industries. The course focuses on designing for sustainability, combining the changing needs of modern products whilst utilising the latest materials and processes within the constraints of diminishing resources and global pollution. On completion of the course, graduates should be able to effectively meet the challenges of material use and their processing and integration into complex product solutions. It will also help students to develop their analytical skills and other qualities needed for a successful career in designing products and in other areas including CAD, manufacturing and the retail sector.
Course structure

Single Honours students take eight modules at each of three levels.
Level 1 introduces key topics and prepares you for higher education level study.

Practical and Workshop skills
Design and Manufacturing
Polymer Materials and Design
Optional Module

Level 2 builds upon Level 1 and addresses employability and your future professional practice.

Modules include:
Polymer Materials and Applications
CAD and Machine Control
Practical Skills
Product Evaluation and Sustainability
Design for Recycling
Optional Module

Level 3 develops your skills in independent problem identification and analysis through a Product Design projects.

Modules include:
High Performance Products
Project
Sports Product Evaluation
Advanced Product Design
Case Studies
Optional Module
You should have GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent) plus one of the following: at least 240 points from two or more A levels, including Design and Technology or related subject; or a pass in BTEC National Diploma in Science or Engineering with four merits in the final year excluding common skills. A Progression Agreement is a formal arrangement between two or more education providers. It spells out what a learner needs to do to be considered for a place on a named programme of study.
