This vocational course provides you with a solid foundation in Public Relations theory and practice, giving you the skills necessary to start a career in either the commercial or public sector, PR consultancy, or within any organisation where you need to maintain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholder groups.

Course structure

Full-time students take eight modules a year at each of three levels. Joint Honours involves four modules from each level in Public Relations, plus four from your other subject. You may also choose a Major/Minor combination at the end of level 1.

Level 1 introduces you to Public Relations and Marketing and related elements of business theory and practice. It also prepares you for higher education-level study, helping you to gain an overview of your subject.

The Internet and Business
Studying Marketing & Operations
Quantitative Analysis

Level 2 takes a more in-depth study of public relations, whilst developing specialist vocational skills.
You increasingly address issues related to employability and professional practice.

Modules include:
Media Relations
Communications and Technology
Public Relations Theory and Practice
Marketing Communications


Level 3 explores strategic and contemporary issues in greater detail. You further develop skills in problem identification and analysis through a project.

Modules include:
Corporate Communications
Public Relations Strategy
Current Issues in Public Relations
Globalisation and the Media


There are opportunities for you to gain professional experience through optional short-term or year-long work placements.
In addition to the University’s standard entry requirements, you should also have 220 points, including at least 160 from two or more A-levels (or equivalent Level 3 Diplomas and Certificates). English Language and Maths GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) are also required. These requirements may be varied. A Progression Agreement is a formal arrangement between two or more education providers. It spells out what a learner needs to do to be considered for a place on a named programme of study. Progression Agreements may vary in the conditions they specify but they all aim to give guaranteed pathways into higher education.
