Laban’s Research programme offers you a unique opportunity to fully immerse yourself in a dance or dance-related topic of your choice. Our programme has a strong practice-based focus, where the interrogation and exploration of creative and artistic processes lies at the heart of the research enterprise.
While you will work within a negotiated framework, you will also be encouraged to define your own path, to take risks, to radically rethink your ideas and those of others, and to redefine your own artistic practice. Ultimately you will be one of a small group of artist-scholars who, in challenging the boundaries of the art form, also push them forward into new and exciting directions.
Throughout your time on the programme, you will be supported and guided by highly experienced supervisors whose expertise is particularly pertinent to your chosen field of research.
As a research student you will become part of a vigorous and active research community, and be able to participate in regular activities such as research seminars and conference days. Your research will also be supported by computer facilities, our excellent library and archive, and our superb resources for the presentation of your work – whether it is the presentation of lecture-demonstrations in the Studio Theatre, or performances in the Bonnie Bird Theatre.
For an explanation of qualifications, have a look at our IAG page on this site www.creativeway.org.uk/quals. Normally you will be expected to hold a good master’s degree or the equivalent. In some cases, you may be considered with a first degree or substantial professional experience.
If you have no formal academic qualifications, you will normally be asked to provide evidence of your capacity to undertake study at this level. English Language competency requirements also apply.
A Progression Agreement is a formal arrangement between two or more
education providers. It spells out what a learner needs to do to be
considered for a place on a named programme of study. Progression Agreements
may vary in the conditions they specify but they all aim to give guaranteed
pathways into higher education.
